Thesis binding
Academic theses are bound according to each individual university’s
regulations. All theses are given section-sewn bindings with cloth-reinforced
endpapers and a flexible, cloth-lined spine. Examination copies in soft
cover are sewn; final library copies are cased in hard buckram-covered
covers with embossing in gold, silver, black or other specified colour
in a wide selection of fonts. We do not offer thermal or 'perfect' bindings.
A
range of 24
colours is available for the covers.
Leather
bindings, hand-marbled and custom-printed endpapers are also available
for personal, presentation or other special copies. These bindings may
be either quarter-bound, with leather on the spine only, half-bound, with
leather on the spine and either the corners or the foredge (illustrated),
or full leather. The cloth-reinforced endpapers are usually made from
papers harmonizing in colour with the leather chosen; hand-marbled paper
may also be used.
It is recommended that theses to be bound in leather
be printed so that the binding can be hand-sewn through the fold in the
centre of the sheet: i.e. on A3 archival short-grain paper with imposition.
Please consult Scribe Bookbinding before printing the copy to be leather-bound.
Although provision is made on this site for a quotation
to be sent by email, it is strongly recommended that the final selection
of leather and hand-marbled paper be made by personal consultation.
